This contemporary Spanish farmhouse, a collaboration between the owners, an Argentinian polo player and his Filipina wife, and the talented architects Claudia Garay and Icíar Gómez-Zuloaga, is a testament to the fusion of tradition and modernity.
A Harmony with Nature

Inspired by the rich, reddish-brown soil, the architects crafted a home that seems to emerge from the earth itself. The low-slung design, a nod to traditional stable blocks and local vernacular, ensures the house blends seamlessly with its surroundings. A Cortijo Reimagined
The owners' vision was clear: they wanted a contemporary take on the classic cortijo Andaluz, the iconic southern Spanish farmhouse centered around an internal courtyard. Claudia and Icíar took this concept and ran with it, creating a unique interpretation. Instead of a traditional courtyard, they designed a series of eight interconnected volumes, each with its own purpose and terrace, creating a dynamic flow that responds to the movement of the sun.
The Art of Entrance
One of the most captivating aspects of this home is its entrance sequence. Guests are greeted by an arched hallway, an indoor-outdoor space adorned with a stunning mural of hand-painted tiles, a true celebration of local craftsmanship. This hallway leads to a courtyard, a nod to the past where horses were once kept, before entering the main house through a vaulted hall. It's a poetic and thoughtful journey, a true welcome to this special place.
Curves and Angles
The architects have masterfully played with contrasts throughout the design. The angular exterior, with its earthy tones, gives way to a softer, more welcoming interior, where curves and vaulted ceilings create a sense of surprise and comfort. The corridors, often overlooked spaces, become destinations in themselves, lined with reclaimed French stone and bathed in diffused light.
